Where you can go to relax, unwind, and enjoy the serenity of the Northwoods
We are a year-round resort, surrounded by thousands of lakes, trees, trails and positioned in the snowbelt, making an ideal vacation destination. Lynx Lake Resort & Bar is located at the North-East end of Lynx Lake, between Boulder Junction and Presque Isle and surrounded by over 1,300 lakes in Vilas County. Whether you are looking to do some angling, snowmobiling, splash in the water with your kids, or just relax with your book by the sounds of the loons—you’ll find it here.
A Bit of History
The resort as we know it today, began as Wheeler’s Resort – an American Plan run resort, consisting of 7 cabins, 4 of which, in some modified form, are still used today. In 1968 David and Betty Zastrow purchased the resort, with their 2 young children, Scott and Beverly, along for the ride. Together they began the transformation of an establishment that has created memories for many.
David and Betty began offering a Housekeeping Plan to accompany the current American Plan, and expanded serving food (and beer!) to the public as well. In those early years, you could find yourself waiting in line for all-you-could-eat Fish Fry, Chicken, fixing and salad bar for $1.99… but not before starting off with a .25¢ tap beer. In 1972, Zastrow’s began serving the finer spirits and in 1975 added a bar onto the Lodge.
During the 53 years Zastrow’s owned the resort, they employed, at any one time, 1-7 people (usually kids) for waitressing, yard work, cabin cleaning, or whatever job the day brought; most of whom were housed on the grounds during the summer months. One of these kids happened to be a boy by the name of Charlie. Charlie came to work for the Zastrow’s many summers, establishing roots with this place and family – which is what drew him and us to where we are today.
In 2021 we purchased the resort from David and Betty, with plans to carry on the resort traditions as they had set in motion. This resort is many things to many people, but to us, keeping the nostalgia of the resort life alive and offering a place where families & friends can make lasting memories, means the most to us.
Cheers to Making Memories,
Charlie and Chelsea
